Keskiviikkona 22.7.2026 Hilma – Vammaisten maahanmuuttajien tukikeskus sai vieraakseen 30 hengen delegaation Northeastern Universitystä (Boston, USA). Ryhmään kuului kansanterveyden (Public Health) opiskelijoita, opettajia sekä ohjelman järjestäjiä. Vierailu oli osa heidän opintomatkaansa Suomeen.
Olimme erityisen iloisia siitä, että vierailun järjestäjät kertoivat Northeastern Universityn kansanterveyden tiedekunnan (Faculty of Public Health, USA) pyytäneen nimenomaan vierailua Hilmaan. Tiedekunta halusi tutustua Hilman työhön ja tarjota opiskelijoille mahdollisuuden oppia, miten tuemme maahanmuuttajataustaisia vammaisia ja pitkäaikaissairaita henkilöitä Suomessa. Arvostamme suuresti tätä luottamuksen osoitusta ja mahdollisuutta jakaa osaamistamme tuleville kansanterveyden ammattilaisille.
Vierailun tavoitteena oli esitellä Hilman toimintaa, palveluja ja vaikuttamistyötä sekä kertoa Suomen vammaispalvelujärjestelmästä, yhteistyöstä Kelan ja muiden viranomaisten kanssa sekä niistä haasteista, joita maahanmuuttajataustaiset vammaiset henkilöt voivat kohdata. Keskustelimme myös esteettömyydestä, yhdenvertaisuudesta, osallisuudesta ja kulttuurisensitiivisten palvelujen merkityksestä.
Luento tarjosi hyvän mahdollisuuden avoimeen keskusteluun, kokemusten vaihtoon ja kansainväliseen yhteistyöhön tulevien kansanterveyden ammattilaisten kanssa.
Vierailun aikana luennon pitivät Vammaisfoorumin puheenjohtaja Maija Aatelo ja Hilman kehittämispäällikkö Mahmoud Hassan.

اختارت كلية الصحة العامة بجامعة نورث إيسترن (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية) هيلما كجزء من زيارتها الدراسية إلى فنلندا للتعرف على المساواة والدمج للأشخاص ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة
في 22 يوليو 2026، تشرف مركز هيلما – مركز دعم المهاجرين من ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة والأمراض المزمنة باستقبال وفد يضم 30 مشاركاً من جامعة نورث إيسترن في مدينة بوسطن بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، وذلك ضمن برنامجهم الأكاديمي وزيارتهم الدراسية إلى فنلندا. وقد ضم الوفد طلاباً وأعضاء هيئة تدريس ومنظمي البرنامج من تخصص الصحة العامة (Public Health).
وكان من دواعي سرورنا أن أبلغنا منظمو الزيارة بأن كلية الصحة العامة في جامعة نورث إيسترن بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية طلبت بشكل خاص إدراج زيارة إلى مركز هيلما ضمن البرنامج الأكاديمي، رغبةً منها في تعريف الطلبة بعمل المركز والاطلاع على خبرته في دعم المهاجرين من ذوي الإعاقة والأمراض المزمنة. ونعتز بهذا التقدير، وبإتاحة الفرصة لنا لمشاركة تجربتنا مع الجيل القادم من المتخصصين في مجال الصحة العامة.
هدفت المحاضرة إلى التعريف برسالة هيلما وأنشطتها وخدماتها، ودورها في تعزيز حقوق الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة من المهاجرين، ودعم اندماجهم ومشاركتهم المتساوية في المجتمع الفنلندي. كما تناولت المحاضرة نظام خدمات الإعاقة في فنلندا، والتعاون مع مؤسسة كيلا (Kela) والجهات الحكومية الأخرى، إضافة إلى التحديات التي قد يواجهها المهاجرون من ذوي الإعاقة، وأهمية الإتاحة والمساواة والخدمات المراعية للاختلافات الثقافية.
وشهد اللقاء نقاشاً ثرياً وتبادلاً للأفكار والخبرات حول حقوق الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، والاندماج، ودور منظمات المجتمع المدني في بناء مجتمع أكثر شمولاً وعدالة.

The Faculty of Public Health at Northeastern University (USA) selected Hilma as part of their study visit to Finland to learn about equality and inclusion for people with disabilities.
On 22 July 2026, Hilma – The Support Centre for Immigrant Persons with Disabilities and Long-term Illnesses had the great pleasure of welcoming a delegation of 30 participants from Northeastern University (Boston, USA), including undergraduate Public Health students, faculty members, and program staff, as part of their educational study visit to Finland.
We were especially honored that, during the planning of the study program, the organizers informed us that the Faculty of Public Health at Northeastern University (USA) had specifically requested a visit to Hilma. The faculty expressed a strong interest in learning more about our work and wanted the students to gain first-hand knowledge of our experience in supporting immigrants with disabilities and long-term illnesses. We sincerely appreciate this recognition and the opportunity to share our work with future public health professionals.
The purpose of the lecture was to provide an overview of Hilma’s work in promoting the rights, inclusion, and equal participation of immigrant persons with disabilities and long-term illnesses in Finland. The presentation also introduced Finland’s disability support system, cooperation with public authorities such as Kela, the challenges faced by immigrants with disabilities, and the importance of accessibility, equality, culturally sensitive services, and advocacy.
The session included an engaging discussion on disability rights, migration, social inclusion, and the vital role of civil society organizations in creating a more equitable society. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and perspectives with future public health professionals from the United States.
The lecture was delivered by Maija Aatelo, Chairperson of the Finnish Disability Forum (Vammaisfoorumi ry), and Mahmoud Hassan, Development Manager at Hilma.
